Just bought a pre-owned 2005 A4 1.8t. Wipers worked fine for a week, then in a snowstorm, on intermittent, all of a sudden they started parking 1/2-way up the windshield. They work fine, and go all the way down when they sweep, but always park 1/2 way up whether on interminntent or turned off. If I push them down with the car off, as soon as I start it (even if the wipers are off) they pop up to the 1/2-way parked position. Does this sound like and arm adjustment I can do or a motor-problem? If motor, is it likely to be covered under the mfg. warranty?

Re: Another windshield wiper question...
Fri, June 15, 2007 - 5:06 AMHey Paul
I have a 04 1.8t A4 Avant 78000 Miles. Car is great except windshield wiper linkage seizes up causing wiper to stop half way up!
Dealer wants 375.00 for new Linkage and 2.5 hours@75.00/ to install This is not a cheap fix ! Audi is aware of problem but refuses to recall
Due to profitabilty! Im going to trade the Damn Thing in for a new CTS Caddy this is bullshit on a 3 year old Car. not sure if Audi/Vw changed Design of linkage and cant afford to throw 500.00 at it every three years adding to expensive cost of operation! anyone else have same issue and or Options???
Thanks
Jeff

Sat, June 23, 2007 - 5:44 AMHey Dan
if you have an afternoon to spare and lots of patience you can put new linkage on !
I just did it yesterday on my 04 A4 Avant. You will need a Shop manual,Battery post puller, metric wrenches and torx drive set.
and last but not least the correct redesigned part from VW/Audi the new part will have will have rubber seals on the wiper arm drive posts.
this part retails for $374.75 Not cheap! you may find it cheaper from parts discounter Good luck with that ! Follow all instructions in manual.
Battery post puller is used to pull wiper arm from drive post !
This is about a 2-3 hour job with a six pack of Labatts for good measure !!!

Thu, September 27, 2007 - 12:51 PMFellas,
I have the same exact issue. Of course when I called tech service at my audi dealer they said I need to bring it in. Going to write a nasty letter to audi for not recalling it. Let me know if you find anything valuable out. -

Re: Another windshield wiper question...
Tue, February 26, 2008 - 4:37 PMThis same problem just happened to my 2004 A4 3.0, but it didn't start until after the dealership replaced one of my windshield wiper arms. The paint on the arm was coming off, so I had them replace the arm on my last oil change. It cost around $123 in parts, I don't remember the labor, but I plan on going after them on grounds that they messed it up. I have little faith that it will get me anywhere though.

Re: Another windshield wiper question...
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 7:48 PMI wanted to see what the best resolution was for this. I went to the dealership because I was having the wipers rest in the middle of the windshield and they fixed the issue but said to be careful since something was stripped a little which caused it to get out of sync. $300 later the same thing happened again during a snow storm. Since something is stripped and defective I would just assume fix it all and not slightly repair the issue. Is this a wiper linkage, transmission, or motor problem? Anyone know where a DIY is for it or is the Bentleys manual the best approach? Thanks in advance.

Re: Another windshield wiper question...
Sat, October 17, 2009 - 12:44 PMI too have an A4. I changed the transmission but now the wipers park halfway too. Could this be that the transmission and motor combo wasn't put back in at the right angle?
